UMass student hit by car, rushed to hospital

Massachusetts Ave. was closed at Mullins Way, student taken to hospital

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – UMass Police closed Massachusetts Avenue at Mullins Way for several hours Tuesday night, after a car hit a UMass student. Mullins Way is the road leading to the rear of the Mullins Center.

UMass Spokesman Ed Blaguszewski told 22News a passenger vehicle hit a student at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The victim was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

According to State Trooper Robert Lima, the State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit, as well as the Crime Scene Services Team, were dispatched to investigate. “It was reported as a non-fatal crash,” Trooper Lima said

22News shot video of four campus police cruisers blocking Massachusetts Avenue. There were several yellow cones placed on the road surface.There was also a fifth vehicle, a passenger car on the side of the road.

Hadley Police were also present because the accident took place very close to the Amherst/Hadley town line.

Massachusetts Avenue was reopened around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday..
