SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – An unattended pressure cooker was found near a trash can on Hall of Fame Avenue, early Monday night.
The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad was called in to investigate just after 4:30 p.m., when the device was found in a cardboard box next to a trash can at a gas station.
Springfield Fire Spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News the pressure cooker was determined to be trash and the area was cleared. No one was evacuate during the investigation, and fire crews and Bomb Squad left the area by 5:15 p.m.
Federal investigators have been re-enforcing the importance of reporting suspicious packages. The two bombs that were discovered in New York this weekend were made from pressure cookers.
