Man wounded in accidental shooting in South Hadley

Man was licensed to carry firearms, South Hadley police say

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – South Hadley police detectives are investigating an accidental shooting over the weekend in the parking lot of a popular family attraction.

South Hadley Police Chief Steve Parentella told 22News that officers were called to McCray’s Country Creamery on Alvord Street at around 3:00 Sunday afternoon. When they got there, they found out that a 29 year-old man from Chicopee had just left the area, after he had accidentally shot himself in the finger with a small-caliber pistol.

The man was taken to Holyoke Medical Center by friends. Police later recovered the gun and ammunition.

Parentella says that the man is indeed licensed to carry firearms. His name is not being released.

Detectives are continuing to speak with witnesses.
