CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – When will Hollywood finally get the “Fatal Attraction” syndrome out of its system?
In this latest re-incarnation, called “When the Bough Breaks”, hell hath no fury like a lunatic surrogate mom with an eye for daddy.
Obviously if childless upscale couple Morris Chestnut and Regina Hall never saw “Fatal Attraction”, then they must have seen “The Hand that Rocks the Cradle”
Since conniving Jaz Sinclair isn’t satisfied living in the lap of luxury waiting to have the baby, she’ll start appropriating Regina’s wardrobe, and from there you can imagine what else she feels entitled to.
There’s nothing wrong with this overwrought thriller that a little originality couldn’t improve. We’ve seen it all so many times before that every scene of steam heated suspense appears to have merely been warmed over melodramatics.
And to think a psychological profile of our disturbed surrogate mother might have avoided all the headache, but the problems with this icky psychological thriller run much deeper.
“When the Bough Breaks” falls apart the first time, you get the drift. It bears repeating that this is just another “Fatal Attraction” imitation. The cast gives it everything they’ve got to a script that doesn’t have much to offer beyond 2 stars.
“When this Bough Breaks”, there’s nobody to pick up the pieces.
