Woman rescued from fire on Walnut Street in Springfield

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the flames

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A woman was rescued from a fire early Saturday morning in Springfield’s Old Hill neighborhood.

Springfield Fire spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News that firefighters were called to 293 Walnut Street just after 2:30 AM for a fire at an unoccupied storefront. A woman was rescued from her home on the second story of the building. The woman did inhale some smoke, but refused to be taken to the hospital.

According to Leger, firefighters were able to quickly put out the flames.

Firefighters are still trying to determine what started the fire.
