SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Food Bank has received a 125 thousand dollar grant from Stop & Shop. The Food Bank will be using that money to expand their mobile food bank program.

There are currently 14 sites that Food Bank trucks distribute food from, 7 of which are in Springfield and Holyoke. The grant money will help the Mobile Food Bank expand to 26 distribution sites over the next 3 years.

Stop & Shop district director Ken Burroughs told 22News, “It’s all about helping the community, and helping the public and giving back.”

Andrew Morehouse, executive director of the Food Bank, told 22News, “Through this effort, we are now distributing more than a million pounds of food, 3/4 of which is fresh produce. Much of it is coming from the Pioneer Valley and going to more than 28,000 people a year.”

The Food Bank has two mobile trucks that deliver free and fresh food to those in need every day. In 2015, the trucks provided more than 62 thousand meals to people across Western Massachusetts.
