WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Friday was a much-anticipated day for iPhone lovers: the release of the iPhone 7.
People were lined up outside of both AT&T and Verizon in West Springfield before the stores opened at 8:00 AM; some had been waiting out there since midnight.
Those iPhone users couldn’t wait another minute to make the upgrade.
“I’ve had the same phone for like four years. I’m just looking for a phone that will hold its charge and something with a better camera,” said Michael Dipon, who was waiting in line in West Springfield.
The iPhone 7 Plus does have a Dual camera, compared to the previous iPhones which had a single camera.
One of the biggest improvements Apple has made to the iPhone 7 is making it water resistant; previously a big problem for iPhone users. Water resistant doesn’t mean water-proof but the phone is designed to be able to stay up to three feet underwater for 30 minutes.
Other new features include a new format for text messages, bigger emoji’s, and cordless headphones.
New iPhone releases are one of the busiest times for local phone retailers
“We’ve had people calling all week. A lot of folks that have pre-ordered through last week when they made the announcement on Wednesday. It’s been so exciting, obviously we have some folks who’ve been waiting outside for today. It’s been nonstop,” said Steve Polis, an area retail sales manager for AT&T.
The iPhone 7 is now available at iPhone retailers.
