EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – It was the Western Massachusetts version of “Friday Night Lights.” The Easthampton High School football team played its first-ever home game under the lights, Friday night.
The Easthampton Eagles hosted the South Hadley Tigers on their new field that was finished last year, illuminated by lights installed this Summer.
Easthampton normally plays home football games on Saturday afternoons, but “Easthampton Friends of Football” president Amy Guyette told 22News, Friday night was their best turnout ever.
“We had a great fan base,” said Guyette, who leads the football booster club. “But a Saturday afternoon is kinda hard. This is Friday night. We’ve got families. We’ve got little kids running around. The excitement is palpable tonight. I’m so excited.”
The field improvements were funded by a Community Preservation Act grant and donations from businesses.
Unfortunately, the South Hadley Tigers ruined Easthampton’s first ever night-time home game. The Eagles lost, 40 to 16.
