Big E is now open- expect traffic on the way to the fair

After opening of fair, traffic backed up on Memorial Bridge, Memorial Avenue, Route 5


WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The fairgrounds are now open, and people are making their way to the Eastern States Exposition grounds to begin celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Great New England State Fair. Buildings opened at 10:00, and the traffic to get to the fair has already picked up.

As of 10:50, the Memorial Bridge and Memorial Avenue was backed up, as was Route 5 from the South End Bridge to the Memorial Avenue Rotary, and on Main Street and Springfield Street in Agawam approaching the bridge to West Springfield.

By 11:45, traffic was easing on the Memorial Bridge itself, but remained backed up elsewhere.
