WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It is the first day of the Big E, and in addition to be the exciting opening of the Great New England State Fair’s centennial season, it is also Military Appreciation Day. As the name suggests, it is a time to recognize active-duty service members and their families, as well as veterans who have served our country through the years.
Veterans and current service members will be able to get into the fairgrounds for free Friday, though they will have to pay for parking.
Military Appreciation Day at the Big E is actually the largest outreach event that the VA has in the entire country. They are offering service members and veterans a variety of health services, including free flu shots and information about mental health services.
The Vet Center where the services are being provided has been set up between Storrowton Village and the Avenue of States, and will be operating up to the parade Friday evening.
