SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield welcomed 132 new United States citizens Friday. The U.S. Citizenship and immigration services presented each candidate to the United States district court of Massachusetts Friday.
The naturalization ceremony was held at the Springfield armory. For 132 people from 42 different countries, Friday’s ceremony meant that all of their hard work had finally paid off.
It wasn’t just a special day for the newly-appointed U.S. Citizens. The occasion also meant a lot to those people who helped them through the naturalization process.
John Richardson, of Hawley told 22News, “I was helping my mother through this whole citizenship and I really think that I helped out a lot and got her to this point, to the naturalization test. And I’m really proud of that.”
The ceremony commemorated Constitution Day and Citizenship Day.
