PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Peter Pan bus driver will not face criminal charges in connection with the death of a woman in downtown Providence last month, city police announced Thursday.

According to police, Michelle Cagnon was struck by a bus while walking on Washington Street in Kennedy Plaza on the morning of Aug. 24.

Cagnon, 30, of Cumberland, R.I. died at the crash site.

Police said the driver, identified as Matthew J. Reidy of Taunton, was making a left turn from Washington Street at the time of the incident. An eyewitness said Cagnon was in the crosswalk when she was hit.

Providence police, along with Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin’s office, investigated and reconstructed the collision and decided not to file charges against Reidy.

Officials offered no further details about the investigation.
