HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News has been closely following the impact of construction on Route 9 in Hadley on both drivers and business owners.
Several weeks ago, we visited The Donut Man right at the heart of the construction site, at the intersection of Routes 9 and 47. They had told us they were losing customers due to the construction, but now the folks there say business is improving.
Other businesses are taking the construction in stride; offering stuck-in-traffic specials to customers. Fonzie Alvarado, owner of Primo’s Pizzeria on Russell Street (Route 9) said they have been surviving, thanks to their loyal customers.
“We’re doing pretty good. We’ve got a lot of loyal customers. Really good people who come here all the time. Basically, we are doing pretty good. We are doing business with the construction workers, too,” Alvarado said.
The good news is that the worst of the traffic problems should be coming to an end. The construction is far from over, but after Friday, crews will be done paving the area, and then turn their focus off the road, to installing sidewalks.
The entire Route 9 project should take about a year to finish.
