Alleged MS-13 gang fugitive arrested in western Massachusetts

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – State and local police arrested an alleged member of the MS-13 gang, early Thursday morning, in the Pittsfield area.

According to a news release from the FBI Boston Division, around 8:25 p.m. Thursday, State Police’s Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Pittsfield Police arrested 34-year-old Efrain Vasquez-Yanez, also known as Caballo.

The FBI said Vasquez-Yanez was found in Pittsfield because State Police discovered he had a connection to the area. He was arrested without incident police said.

Vasquez-Yanez was indicted on January 26, 2016, along with 55 other members and close associates of La Mara Salvatrucha, MS-13. The FBI said he was charged with RICO conspiracy and conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

The FBI’s North Shore Gang Task Force announced a $20,000 reward last week for information on Vasquez-Yanez, but no reward money will have to be paid out since State Police found him.
