Why you should consider getting your flu shot early this season

If you've gotten the flu nasal mist in previous years you won't be able to get it this year

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Flu season has not quite officially started but there have already been some cases of flu reported around the country.

According to the CDC, there has been a minimal number of cases of flu reported across the United States. Some doctors and pharmacies are already offering flu shots and the sooner you get it the better.

Dr. Daniel Skies, of Baystate Medical Center said, “It’s a good time to get the shot right now. If you can get the shot from a pharmacy or a physician go and get it now, it takes about two weeks to really kick in to provide full immunity and it will last through the season.”

If you’ve gotten the flu nasal mist in previous years you won’t be able to get it this year. The mist has not proven to be effective so you’ll have to get the shot. 10s of thousands of people are hospitalized or die from the flu each year.
