CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The 22News Storm Team declared Wednesday a Weather Alert Day due to the potential for a few damaging wind gusts in the afternoon as showers and thunderstorms moved through.

After a bright morning, we saw more of a sun/cloud mix during the afternoon.

From 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., there was a risk for isolated to scattered storms and quick moving downpours, especially during the mid-late afternoon. Many neighborhoods stayed dry, but the risk of any storms popping up could have brought damaging wind gusts.

Wind gusts could have caused more damage than usual given that our drought has weakened trees around western Massachusetts.

The Weather Alert Day was canceled around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. There were no reports of any severe wind damage.
