SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A portion of Pendleton Avenue will be closed on Friday, as the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission continues to replace the city’s pipes.

Pendleton Avenue will be closed on September 16th from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., between Hancock Street and Eastern Avenue. Drivers can expect some detours and delays.

The construction is part of this year’s Infrastructure Improvement Project. Private contractors are making water and sewer upgrades at multiple locations in the City of Springfield, based on a prioritized plan.

“We have an assessment program for our sewer system. We can go in and take a look at those pipes, and we can see which pipes need to be repaired. From there, we make a list of prioritized projects,” said Joyce Mulvaney of the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission.

The city-wide project is replacing 3,700 feet of sewer main pipe and more than 7,000 feet of water main pipe. Click Here to find a map of all the locations where work will be done.
