SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Drivers have been dealing with heavy traffic on Interstate 91 south for months. It is all part of the extensive renovation of the elevated portion of the highway through Springfield.
Drivers feel the squeeze during high-volume traffic hours. One truck driver told 22News that merging into the one lane is impossible sometimes.
Daud Muya of West Springfield said, “A lot of people are trying to force in. Especially, if you have a big truck, a lot of people expect that you can hold the brake. And then sometimes it’s tough, because you have some people driving crazy.”
MassDOT is inviting the public for a meeting on Tuesday, September 13 to hear about the Dynamic Merge System; a pilot program intended to improve traffic flow on the interstate.
The meeting will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at One Financial Plaza, 1350 Main Street in Springfield, 3rd Floor Conference Room.
