CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Chicopee Boys & Girls Club received a grant from the state on Monday to continue improving its services for local children.
Massachusetts State Senator Eric Lesser went to the club, after working to secure a $200,000 increase in the state’s 2017 fiscal budget for Boys & Girls clubs across the state. The Chicopee club was awarded more than $31,000.
Senator Lesser told 22News these clubs act as anchors for the communities they serve; “In a very tight budget year, when dollars were short and everyone is looking for ways to cut, we were actually able to get this funding for the Boys & Girls clubs because people understand how important the work is here.”
Club Resource Development Director Jason Reed said the Chicopee club will utilize the money to expand technology and educational resources for the kids.
