Pet of the Week: Heath the Kitten

CHICOPEE, Mass. (Mass Appeal) – In this edition of Pet of the Week, we were introduced to Heath, a 2-month-old Domestic Shorthair Mix kitten. Lee Chambers, Manager of Marketing and Communication for Dakin Humane Society, told us more about Heath, and other events going on at Dakin.

Tiny Heath had a tough beginning, but he’s healthy and happy now! This little one was a sickly newborn who spent time with a foster caregiver who made sure he recovered nicely! Heath is now ready to charm his way into someone’s heart and move on to his new home. Just like all other Dakin kitten adoptees, he comes with an assortment of essentials: rabies vaccine, neuter surgery, leukemia testing, distemper/upper respiratory vaccine, worming, flea treatment, ear mite treatment, safety collar and ID, plus MICROCHIP. Come meet him at Dakin’s Springfield Adoption & Education Center.

TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return) Workshop – Saturday, September 10 at 1pm at Dakin’s Springfield Adoption & Education Center (171 Union Street, Springfield)

The life of a feral (homeless outdoor) cat is bleak. Their average lifespan (if nobody is feeding them on a regular basis) is about 2 years. When they have litters, about half the kittens die from exposure, disease or other dangers. What can you do to help? Be a hero. Learn how to safely and humanely trap feral cats, get them spayed or neutered and vaccinated, and return them to the outdoors. This free workshop teaches you how to be part of the growing national TNR (trap/neuter/return) movement to help feral cats and help prevent animal homelessness. No pre-registration required.
