Payment information for E-Z Pass transponders

There is a cash option payment method

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – With the new electronic tolling system, there are a lot of questions surrounding the payment methods of the E-Z Pass transponders.

Even if you don’t have a credit or debit card you can still have an E-Z Pass because there is a cash option available.

When you open your E-Z Pass account with a credit card or ACH automatic replenishment, it’s $20 per transponder. It’s $30 without a credit card or ACH automatic replenishment for private accounts. For commercial accounts, it’s $50 per transponder.

After your account is opened, for subsequent replenishment for a private account, you would pay the greater of the average monthly usage or $10. For a commercial account you would pay the greater of the average monthly usage or $30.

Money gets taken out of your account when you reach your low balance threshold. $10 per transponder gets taken out with automatic replenishment for private accounts, and $20 per transponder gets taken out without automatic replenishment.

For commercial accounts, you would pay the greater of 25 percent of the replenishment amount or $20 with automatic replenishment. You would pay $25 per transponder without automatic replenishment.

If a customer doesn’t have automatic replenishment setup, and they choose to get notified when their balance is low, for example through email or text message, MassDOT will send the customer an email/text when the balance hits $20. The customer can choose how much they want to add to the account at that time.
