Service offers free removal of yellow jacket nests

Captured wasps will be used to treat people with allergies

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Over the next couple of weeks, the local yellow jacket population will peak and their nests can triple in size. If you have one of these nests in your home then you’ll want to get rid of it before you and your family get stung.

Josiah Patterson of Free Yellow Jacket Removal can get rid of them for free. He uses a vacuum that sucks the yellow jackets into a trap. They are then frozen in dry ice and sent to a lab where their venom is used by doctors to help people who are allergic to their stings.

“What they actually do is give people who are allergic trace amounts of the venom,” Patterson explained, “so that when they get stung, they won’t have to be carrying an EpiPen, so they won’t have to go to the hospital every time they get stung.”

Some of the nests can end up with more than 300 yellow jackets, so if you do have a problem with them you’ll probably want to get rid of them as soon as possible. For more information on how you can get your yellow jackets removed for free, you can visit Free Yellow Jacket Removal’s website.
