South Hadley Police Chief confirmed

Parentela has worked for the department since 1983

SOUTH HADLEY (WWLP) – The South Hadley Select Board confirmed Lt. Steven Parentela as Police Chief on Tuesday.

Parentela has been serving as the interim Police Chief since July 1st, following the retirement of Chief David Labrie. Labrie served as Chief of Police for over a decade.

Parentela became an officer in South Hadley in 1988 and has been involved in local and statewide initiatives related to juvenile crime, drug bans and sexual assault. He also served as a special officer beginning in 1983.

He told 22News he is honored that the community trusts him with such an important role, “I’ve worked very hard to get here and I’m happy that the citizens and board of selectmen have faith in me to lead the police department.”

Parentela has been given a conditional offer of employment and will undergo professional training. South Hadley has greatly expanded training of new and existing managers.

His anticipated start date will be September 30th.
