Man in critical condition after shooting in Springfield

Victim was shot in the head and the chest

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A man was seriously wounded in a shooting near the intersection of Worthington and Armory Streets Tuesday night.

Springfield Police Lt. Mark Rolland told 22News the “shotspotter system” notified police of six rounds fired at Worthington and Armory Streets a few minutes before 10:00 p.m. Tuesday; “He was shot in the head and the chest, and was taken to the hospital.”

According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, the victim was shot while standing outside a car. He said the victim was taken to Baystate Medical Center and is in critical condition.

Yellow caution tape was stretched across Worthington Street; the street was closed to traffic at the intersection with Armory Street. Detectives are actively investigating and searching for suspects. They were told by witnesses that two suspects ran down Armory Street.
