SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It was a close call for one Springfield grandmother after a huge tree branch came down and crushed her car.
At least half of an old oak tree broke off and came down across White Street in Springfield, Monday night. From the darkened hollow trunk, it appears the tree was rotted out, and the wind broke the big branch off.
Joshua Gonzalez of Springfield told 22News his grandmother was very lucky. She had just gotten out of the car and was walking toward her sister’s house.
“She came out of the car and walked pretty much two houses down, and started hearing the tree cracking, and everything falling, and she turned around, and the tree branch went straight through her car. Right where she was sitting at,” said Gonzalez.
Joshua’s grandmother was not hurt. White Street was closed while crews cut up and removed the tree. White Street is open now.
