Students moving into college causing traffic near UMass Amherst

Several roads are blocked off

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Labor Day weekend will be busy at UMass Amherst as students move in.

For drivers, the least anticipated thing about move-in day is the traffic. There are several roads blocked off. You won’t be able to go north on University Drive between Amity Street and Sunset Avenue from 9 AM till 4 PM. On Commonwealth Avenue, traffic will be narrowed to allow students to unload.

On Saturday, transfer students moved in, but traffic has been impacted since Friday.

Drivers are encouraged to use Route 116, Rocky Hill Road and North Pleasant Street to get around the detour, however drivers are advised to avoid this area all together.
