Hundreds celebrate final day of Stone Soul Festival

Large crowds gathered at blunt park to listen to gospel music and enjoy some traditional barbecue food

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Hundreds came out to experience the third and final day of Stone Soul.

What started as a community picnic nearly 30 years ago has grown to be a several day celebration and Sunday it concluded with a community wide picnic. Stone soul picnic is a time to celebrate family and friends while enjoying good food and good music. Program Chairman Jay Griffin sr. told 22News this picnic is a collaborative effort and embodies the spirit of community.

Jay Griffin Sr., Program Chairman, “People are acting so cooperative and friendly, and we end up with a picnic where we provide a lot of food, but families also provide a lot of food.”

After praise in the park concluded on Sunday, large crowds gathered at blunt park to listen to gospel music and enjoy some traditional barbecue food and to celebrate the event that started it all 28 years ago.
