ASHFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Western Massachusetts Technical Rescue Team was involved in an effort to rescue a fallen hiker in Ashfield Wednesday night.
State Trooper Paul Sullivan told 22News an unidentified hiker fell some 30 to 40 feet from the Chapel Ledges in Ashfield at about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.
“Ashfield Police and Fire, as well as fire departments from neighboring Conway and Williamsburg are all participating in the rescue effort,” Trooper Sullivan said.
The rescue effort was still going on more than three hours after it had first been reported.
Sullivan said the hiker was conscious and talking during the rescue.
An ambulance brought the injured hiker to a waiting Life Flight helicopter, and lifted off for a flight to a hospital.
He said the accident site was near where the towns of Ashfield, Conway and Williamsburg meet.
