SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Construction continues at MGM Springfield as crews are currently laying the groundwork for MGM Springfield’s Resort Casino.
The foundation for the first floor of the MGM hotel was poured last week, and crews continue to work on the hotel along Main Street.
Crews have also been able to demolish the inside of 95 State Street, as well as installing a 70,000 gallon storm water retention system.
With all this progress underway, many residents told 22News they are looking forward to the end of construction, so they can enjoy the finished project.
“I go down Mohegan Sun on a regular basis, which is a really long drive, so this is a lot closer. I hope it has the same amenities and similar facilities,” said James Manning of Hartford, CT.
In addition to pouring the foundation of the planned six story hotel, crews are also working on laying the foundation for the entertainment complex, as well as the parking garage.
The casino is expected to be up and running by September of 2018.
