No benefit to crossing state line for deals

Massachusetts already doesn’t charge sales tax on shoes or clothing

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Massachusetts shoppers won’t benefit from hopping the state line for Connecticut’s sales tax free week.

Connecticut’s tax free week only applies to shoes and clothing under $100. Massachusetts already doesn’t charge sales tax on shoes or clothing, unless an individual item is more than $175.

Brenda Fournier of Chicopee said, “You should figure out what you need and where you’re going to get the best deal, but look for the small print. They’re not always going to tell you ‘you’re not going to get a deal here.’”

Massachusetts has typically held a sales tax-free weekend every year since 2004. It was not approved this year because of a budget shortfall.
