Teen seriously injured after moped crash in Chicopee

Marcelle Street was closed while police clear the area

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A teenager was recovering in the hospital Monday night after crashing his moped on Marcelle Street in Chicopee.

Chicopee Police Capt. Lonny Dakin told 22News that a 16-year-old boy was riding his moped on Marcelle Street when he crashed into a light pole. He was rushed to the hospital.

Chicopee Police Officer Michael Wilk told 22News the boy had a serious leg injury and is expected to be OK.

The accident happened around 7:00 p.m. The Accident Reconstruction Team worked on gathering evidence from the crash site for over 2 hours. The road was closed while police cleared the area, and reopened around 9:30 p.m.

Chicopee police are still trying to figure out the cause of the crash.
