SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Construction crews in Springfield will be working at two locations on Monday making water and sewer upgrades starting at 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. for the next couple weeks.
On Island Pond Road, at the intersection of Arcadia Boulevard and Roosevelt Avenue, will be reduced to one lane for these upgrades and is expected to take about two weeks.
Arcadia Boulevard will be closed to through- traffic.
There will also be construction on Hancock Street, from State Street to Lebanon Street, which will also start on Monday. This work is expected to continue through the fall. There will be times during this project that Hancock Street will be reduced to a single lane.
The upgrades will consist of crews replacing over 3,000 feet of sewer pipe and over 7,000 feet of water main pipe and fixing another 6,000 feet of water main pipe. They will also be replacing over 50 manhole covers.
This project will be done by private contractors through the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission. It is all part of their annual infrastructure improvements project.
