Chicopee updating what residents can recycle

The city has expanded the types of plastic items they can recycle

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee is reminding residents which items and materials can and cannot be recycled.

Chicopee residents will receive flyers included in their electric bills, reminding them of these guidelines.

Chicopee DPW superintendent Jeffrey Neece told 22News, but residents admitted they are still confused about what’s considered “acceptable.”

Duane Lee of Chicopee said, “They don’t know, because we just throw everything in there and let the recycle people figure it out.”

When it comes to plastic, Chicopee residents can recycle laundry baskets, playhouses, signs, and empty trash cans. You cannot recycle hangers, light bulbs, plastic bags, styrofoam, or pots and pans.

The following is a full list of what Chicopee residents can and cannot recycle.
