How does emergency crews deal with the Rt. 9 construction work in Hadley?

HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – Construction on Rt. 9 in Hadley has been going on for several months.

The construction has caused traffic delays and backups, but the Hadley police department are taking steps to ensure that there are no unnecessary delays, and that the construction doesn’t cause problems for emergency vehicles who need to get through.

Sgt. Kenneth Heartwright of the Hadley Police department told 22News, “The ambulance checkpoints were set up to give the officers that are working the construction site to give them a heads up to clear traffic before the ambulances have to get through the construction area on the way to the hospital.”

Beginning Monday August 15th, Ambulance check point signs will be posted throughout the construction zone to ensure the expedited passage of ambulances and emergency personnel.
