CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Severe weather passed through western Massachusetts on Friday, bringing heavy downpours, strong winds and lots of lightning.

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and Heat Advisories were issued on Friday for Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Berkshire counties. 22News even issued a Weather Alert Day in the morning due to the potential for sever weather.

The storm brought down trees and power lines. The MEMA outage map showed hundreds of people without power in western Massachusetts.

Lightning strikes are being blamed for a power outage in the Town of Montgomery. Lightning hit some electrical wires on Main Road in Montgomery at about 3:15 p.m. The first report came in as “wires down and arcing on the road.”

The Police Chief from neighboring Huntington told 22News that most of Montgomery’s 374 households lost power, but Eversource has since fixed the damaged wires.

It also was a scary situation in Southwick. High winds blew a 90-foot hardwood tree down just behind Susan Meier’s house on Eagle Street. The old tree was uprooted and went over; its entire root ball came right out of the ground.

Meier was lucky, the big tree missed the main house, but she lost the garage; “Across my garage, crushed my garage. Took down the neighbor’s electrical wires, and also, a tree across the street hit my neighbor’s house across the street’s house.”

More than 130 households lost power in Southwick. No one was hurt.

Earlier Friday evening, the storms made their way through Southampton. The wind uprooted a massive tree and dropped it over power lines at 21 Old County Road. Our 22News crew saw several large branches and limbs on the streets surrounding Old County Road.

Below is a look at damage reports, as reported over HAM radio, and by trained weather spotters:
