All lanes of Mass Pike re-opened, 10 hours after 2-truck crash

The tractor trailer rolled over and that is causing other problems

CHARLTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Two trucks collided on the Mass Pike in Charlton early Friday morning, causing a section of the highway to be closed for hours, with long delays continuing throughout the morning, even after lanes were re-opened.

All lanes are now open again on the eastbound and westbound sides of the highway, but expect long delays to continue on the eastbound side to continue for quite a while, as backups were extending all the way to Palmer prior to all lanes being re-opened at around 12:45 P.M.

State Trooper Darren Specht told 22News that two trucks collided on the eastbound side of the highway at around 2:45 A.M. on Friday. One of the trucks caught fire from the impact of the crash. That truck is filled with paper and clothing; items that Trooper Specht said fueled the stubborn fire.

With all the residual backups, you may want to use Route 20 as an alternative for traveling east, however there is a lot of traffic going that way as well, so be sure to allow yourself an extra 30-45 minutes for travel.
