Wearing glasses can be uncomfortable but safer

(KPRC) – Many spend time at the pool over the summer, and people with glasses are constantly wondering if they can wear their contacts in the water.

One ophthalmologist explains why glasses may be the best choice. Water exposure can start a vicious cycle where bacteria can grow on your contacts, in your eyes, and in the contact lens case.

It can lead to one devastating eye infection called Acanthamoeba, caused by tiny parasites infecting the eye that lead to pain, redness and blurred vision.

Wearing glasses can be uncomfortable, but it is the safer choice.
