Ruby Tuesday closing 95 restaurants

(WFLA) – Ruby Tuesday says it will close 95 underperforming restaurants by September 2016.

“Ruby Tuesday recently completed a comprehensive review of its corporate-owned restaurant portfolio and determined that it was in the Company’s best interest to close approximately 95 underperforming restaurants,” the company said in an announcement about its fourth quarter and fiscal year 2016 financial results.

The locations of underperforming restaurants have not been announced. There are 724 Ruby Tuesday restaurants in the chain. 646 restaurants are company operated.

The company also said it plans to streamline to improve profitability through its Fresh Start initiative which will also include a new menu and a new salad bar. The restaurant chain says it hopes to attract more women and young families and increase visits from current Ruby Tuesday guests.

Ruby Tuesday has two locations in western Massachusetts: one in Holyoke and one in Springfield. There are also locations in Enfield and Windsor Locks, Connecticut.
