CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Severe storms on Friday brought a lot of rain throughout western Massachusetts, which means drivers had to be extra cautious on the roads.
Oil and debris accumulate on the road surface when it hasn’t rained for a while, making the roads slicker when it first gets wet. By the second day of rain, the roads are less dangerous because the oil and debris have washed off.
22News asked the owner of Parrotta’s Auto Repairs in Agawam, Bruno Parrotta, how drivers should adjust for this weather. He said, “Take a look at the tires yourself, make sure that the brakes are good, and you know, you’ve have to drive a teeny bit more cautiously. The ABS system should work pretty well, but you’re still sliding around a bit.”
Make sure you keep a safe distance between you and the car ahead of you to avoid spinning out when coming to a stop.
