SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Community Music School of Springfield needs hundreds of donated musical instruments for potential students.
The “Play it Forward” program hopes to put instruments in the hands of 250 potential students at the school. Deerfield Academy senior Mia Cuda is the daughter of the school’s executive director, and said that having that musical experience while young is so important.
“I was a musician growing up. It’s really powerful, you’ve accomplished something when you learn a piece of music,” Cuda said.
“It gives them the ability to accomplish great things, there’s a discipline involved. You have to practice and it’s something they can take with them, even if they don’t become professional musicians,” music teacher Rick Marshall said.
The Play it Forward musical instrument donation drive starts Monday. If you have a musical instrument that you no longer need, you can drop them off at the Community Music School at 127 State Street in Springfield, or at the following Big Y locations:
- Chicopee – 650 Memorial Dr.
- East Longmeadow – 441 North Main St.
- Longmeadow – 802 Williams St.
- Springfield – 300 Cooley St.
- Westfield – 475 East Main St.
- Wilbraham – 2035 Boston Rd.
They can also be dropped off on Tuesday, August 16 from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Parent and Community Engagement Center, located at 91 School Street in Springfield.
