Chicopee Police: 2 tried to steal over $2,000 in power tools from Home Depot

This was the man's 11th shoplifting arrest.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee Police arrested two suspects who allegedly tried to shoplift over $2,000 in power tools from Home Depot on Memorial Drive.

Chicopee Police Officer Michael Wilk told 22News security from Home Depot had been conducting surveillance on an alleged suspect known to have shoplifted at their store.

After officers spoke with store security, they learned that two suspects had allegedly attempted to hide over $2,225 of power tools, and leave the store, said Wilk. John Duncan 36, and Jennifer Matlasz, 40, both of Dale Street in Chicopee were arrested.

  • Matlasz was charged with shoplifting over $100
  • Duncan was charged with shoplifting over $100 subsequent offense

After officers arrested both suspects, they found that this was Duncan’s 11th shoplifting arrest, said Wilk.

Matlasz was released on $540 bail and Duncan was held on $2,540 bail and will appear in Chicopee District Court Wednesday morning.
