CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Perhaps they should rename the street “Bear-nett Road”… Residents of Burnett Road in Chicopee were again seeing a black bear in their backyards Wednesday morning.
Pictures sent to 22News by Andrew Santo through our Report It feature shows the bear in his yard at around 7:30 A.M. This is on Burnett Road near the fire station. 22News received another report earlier in the morning about a bear in the same general area.
This is not the first time this year that bears have been seen in the neighborhood. Back in May, Chicopee police were receiving reports of a bear roaming around side streets of Burnett Road near the Ludlow line.
Later in the afternoon, 22News also received photos from Kevin McCullough in Ludlow, who saw a mother bear and two cubs just off Fuller Street.
That general area, which is not far from the Chicopee line, was also visited by bears back in the spring.
In order to discourage bears from visiting your property, make sure that you are not providing any food source that would attract them. Remove any bird feeders, secure your trash, and make sure that you feed your pets indoors.
If you do see a bear, you should not approach the animal.
