Transponder problems persist at Exit 6 E-ZPass lane

DOT says problem is with improperly placed transponders, not a system malfunction

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – On Thursday night, 22News cameras caught cars going through the E-ZPass lane at Mass Pike Exit 6 without activating the green “thank you” light.

After our coverage, MassDOT shut down the E-ZPass lane overnight. They re-opened lane Friday morning, following some technical work by a DOT repair crew.

Friday afternoon, 22News cameras once again caught a problem with the green light, which a veteran DOT employee denied was the result of a system malfunction. He insisted it was caused by an improperly placed transponder in the driver’s car.  He said some drivers keep transponders so out of the way, they simply don’t register when their cars enter the turnpike or when they get off.
