Car fire caused lane closures on the Mass Pike in Chicopee

One driver suffered minor injuries

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Traffic was stopped on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Chicopee, early Friday evening, after a two car accident.

Sgt. George Hamilton of the Westfield State Police Barracks told 22News that the accident happened around 4:30 p.m., on the eastbound side on Interstate 90, prior to Exit 6.

One of the cars caught fire, Sgt. Hamilton said, and one of the drivers suffered minor injuries. All eastbound lanes were closed while the police investigated and the area was cleared.

No word on how the accident happened, or why the car caught fire. All lanes were reopened around 5:15 p.m.
