SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – On August 5, 1993, 10 year-old Holly Piirainen was last seen alive. Twenty-three years later, her murder remains unsolved.
On the anniversary of her disappearance, the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office is urging anyone who has any information to come forward.
The Grafton resident was vacationing with her family in Sturbridge at the time she disappeared. At around 11:45 A.M., Piirainen’s father last saw her, leaving for a home on South Shore Road, where she was going to play with some puppies. Piirainen never returned, and after a massive search of the area by multiple law enforcement agencies, only a single sneaker was found.
The 10 year-old’s body was found two and a half months later by hunters in a wooded area off Five Bridge Road in neighboring Brimfield.
In a news release sent to 22News, Hampden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni said that police have never given up in their effort to find and bring to justice Piirainen’s killer. “The Piirainen family has been coping with this tragedy for 23 years. Along with Holly’s family, members of my office and the Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the case have never stopped investigating to try to bring justice to Holly and her family. If any member of the public has any information, please contact us,” Gulluni said.
