NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Ryan O’Donnell scored a decisive victory in the Northampton At-Large City Council Special Election Thursday.

Ward 3 City Councilor Ryan O’Donnell won the At-Large seat by a margin of three to one. Marlene Morin came in a distant second.

Northampton City Clerk Wendy Mazza told 22News 13 percent of the City’s eligible voters went to the polls. O’Donnell garnered 1900 votes, while Morin had 646 votes.

With O’Donnell vacating his Ward 3 City Council seat, a Ward 3 race will now be added to the November ballot in Northampton.

Mazza said if more than two candidates take out nomination papers, she’ll schedule a preliminary election for October.

Thursday’s election became necessary after the resignation of At-Large City Councilor Jesse Adams.
