Battery level may threaten online privacy

It not clear what the data is being used for

(CNN) – Did you know the battery status on your electronic devices could threaten your privacy online?

Most internet users know they can be tracked and targeted based on what websites they visit and what they search for. But it turns out even the battery level on our phones and laptops may be giving away personal information.

Princeton University researchers “crawled” the top one-million websites, and found a small number are now tracking how much charge is left on your device’s battery.

They can’t say for sure what the data is being used for, but the more businesses know about you online, the more they can try to target ads and products to you.
