Winning ticket sold for Saturday’s $478M Powerball jackpot

44 states across the country play Powerball

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The winning ticket for Saturday’s $478 million Powerball jackpot was purchased in New Hampshire.

Powerball drawings are held twice a week, and there were no winners since the May 7th drawing. Saturday’s drawing was the 8th largest jackpot in history.

Winners can choose to spread the payments out or take the lump sum cash option of $330.6 million, which is $165 million after taxes.

Alex Malevaly told 22News he does everything he can to increase his chances of winning: “I play the lottery almost every day,”

Last year, officials at the Multi State Lottery Association changed the odds of winning from 1 in 175 million to 1 in 292.2 million.

This allows them to generate bigger jackpots, increase sales, and ultimately offer larger prizes. The change has led to three of the largest Powerball jackpots this year alone. Some who play the lottery know exactly what they would do with that money.

A local resident told 22News, “I would definitely buy a house with the money, pay my bills off, give some money to my parents to help them pay their bills off and set some aside for my daughter.”

The largest Powerball jackpot ever won was worth 1.6 billion dollars. Powerball tickets are 2 dollars each and drawings are held Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59 pm.

44 states across the country play Powerball.

The winning numbers for Saturday’s drawing were 11-17-21-23-32 PB 5.
