BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP ) – A bill passed Saturday will create big changes for those taking leave from work.

The Massachusetts senate has approved a bill that would create a system of paid family and medical leave for all workers of the state. Under the bill, employers will now have to provide 16 weeks of paid leave for family care which includes the birth of a child.

Crystal Barre, of Chicopee, told 22 News, “I think it will be really helpful, and as a parent I really agree with what they are doing.”

The bill would also require employers to provide 26 weeks of paid disability leave. It remains unclear whether the measure will be taken up by the house before the formal legislative session ends Sunday.
