2 rushed to hospital after car hit house in Springfield

A mother and son were freed from the wreckage and rushed to the hospital

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – First responders jumped into action Friday night to rescue the occupants of a car that hit a parked pickup truck and then the front porch of a house in Springfield’s Forest Park.

Springfield Police Captain Robert Strempek told 22News he’d received a report of a car colliding with a house on White Street at about 9:40 p.m. Friday. He said that the vehicle lost control, hit a pickup truck parked in a neighbors driveway, and then hit the porch.

car hit house springfield 1Video of the wreckage showed that the airbags had deployed in the car. Springfield Fire Spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News firefighters freed the victims, a mother and her son, using hydraulic tools. He said they were rushed to Baystate Medical Center but are expected to be okay.

The Springfield Fire Department was called in to make sure no gas lines were hit, and that the house was structurally sound and habitable. The City Building Inspector was also called in to inspect.
